LABOUR has selected previous candidate Bilal Mahmood to take on Iain Duncan Smith in the race to become the MP for Chingford and Woodford Green.
Mr Mahmood said he is excited to get campaigning as he looks to improve on the 12,613 votes he secured in 2015, the most by a Labour candidate in the seat since 1997.
Bilal said the following:
"I'm humbled and excited to be selected to represent the Labour Party.
In just two years, the Conservative Government has led us to a constitutional crisis, weakened our economy and made the lives of working families harder and their futures deeply uncertain.
Iain Duncan Smith has played a key role in these failures, as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and his hard-line but ill-advised views on Brexit.
I look forward to making the case for a better, fairer alternative by meeting and speaking to as many constituents as I can.
It is my hope to give the residents of Chingford and Woodford Green a voice in Parliament that reflects them."
