I lived in Charlottesville, VA for a year while studying at the University of Virginia Law School. Whilst there, I made life-long friends, broadened my viewpoints, and developed a deep sense of civic duty. This was thanks my fellow students and the local community. The scenes of Nazi marches, burning torches and death are nightmarishly distant to what I remember. For me, that's a sign of how divided we have become, and what we must do in response must be.

Last Sunday, TV presenter, journalist and novelist Owen Jones and I led a #UnseatIDS campaign day, with hundreds of supporters from all over the country from Manchester to Brighton visiting. We had special guests also join us, including Clare Coghill (leader of Waltham Forest Council), MPs Stella Creasy and Wes Streeting, and World Snookering legend Ronnie O’Sullivan.

Last Thursday, the Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn visited Chingford Green for a rally and canvass session. His presence showed the whole community that the Labour Party will be dedicating energy and resources at the next election, whenever that may be. I had the chance to discuss the election result, the local constituency and the passion of local members and supporters as we canvassed areas of Highams Park.

I can almost hear the quiet that has fallen over my home, London. Such shocking acts of vile, arrogant barbarism anger me beyond rage. The scenes of terror of my fellow Londoners on London Bridge and Borough saddens me beyond words. My thoughts, prayers and hearts are with the families of the victims of last night.

Like the majority of Chingford and Woodford Green, I am a Remainer. Working in the financial services, as a Londoner and an internationalist, I know the vital importance of remaining as close to the EU as possible. While I have to respect the EU Referendum result, I personally would go further than the Labour Manifesto. I would support other Labour MPs such as David Lammy, Chukka Ummuna and Stella Creasy, who have committed to for a Brexit deal where we remain part of the Single Market.

One of the highlights of campaigning is getting to enjoy fantastic events like the Highams Park Spring Festival. Organised by the Friends of Highams Park, I spent my time saying hello and talking to local residents about a number of issues. But mostly, it was a good excuse for an ice cream!

Theresa May’s government has failed older people, their cuts to social care have resulted in over one million older people not getting the care they need. Labour will spend an extra £45 billion on the NHS and social care over five years. In Chingford and Woodford Green, 13,500 people are set to lose out on their Winter Fuel Payments. That's 85% of people who locally benefit from it. We have a better plan.

I recently had the chance to meet up with the fantastic Breakfastclub , a volunteer kitchen dedicated to feeding local homeless and food impoverished people. They're on Chingford Mount Road every second Sunday. Wonderful local volunteers tackling homelessness and poverty the Chingford way.

It's vital we support this cause. If you'd like to help, please message them on e4breakfastclub@gmail.com.

IDS is trying hard to be seen locally after years of neglecting Chingford and Woodford Green. But when it comes to his record, the real numbers don't lie. He may have made a career relying on fake numbers plastered on the side of a bus, but we want to show residents they can choose an MP that relies on a real record of commitment and honesty in the local community.
